International GCSE History course looks at some of the major international issues of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, as well as covering the history of particular regions in more depth. The emphasis is on both historical knowledge and on the skills required for historical research.

International GCSE History requires about 130 hours of study. The number of hours needed may vary depending on your previous experience of the subject.

We recommend that students who are beginning this course should have previously completed a History curriculum such as the International Lower Secondary programme or equivalent national educational framework.

International AS & A Level History is a flexible and wide-ranging course covering modern history in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The syllabus builds upon skills gained at International GCSE and develops lifelong skills including understanding issues and themes within a historical period.

The emphasis is again on both historical knowledge and on the skills required for historical research. You will develop an understanding of cause and effect, continuity and change, similarity and difference, and use historical evidence as part of your studies. International AS Level History requires about 180 hours of study, and International A Level History requires about 360 hours of study. These figures are for guidance only. The number of hours needed may vary depending on your previous experience of the subject.

We recommend that students who are beginning this course should have previously completed an International GCSE course in History.

Grade B/6 or above in History at IGCSE (or equivalent) is required before starting International AS & A History. It is also necessary that all A-Level students have IGCSE English Language or the equivalent at Grade C/4 or above.
